After spending half my life so far in Kolkata — City of Joy, I am currently working as a freelance journalist in the eastern state of Bihar.
Venturing into the volatile world of freelance journalism happened almost by chance. Before becoming a freelancer, I worked for a few Hindi newspapers, but I didn’t find it fulfilling. There is a saying in Hindi — Aaye the hari bhajan ko otan lage kapas [To set out for a noble/great purpose, but get sidetracked into doing trivial work]. That is exactly how I felt while working in the newspaper industry.
It was an ordinary morning of 2018 when without a second thought, I quit my job.
I spent some time making the rounds of various newspaper and media portal offices but failed to land a job anywhere. Compelled by circumstances, I began a new chapter as a freelance journalist — a role I have now come to truly enjoy.
